Why is ISLANDER?
"I moved from an island named Taiwan to another island called Australia.
My husband Chris and I live aboard a sailboat, exploring and navigating through the Whitsunday Islands."
This is one of my favorite ways to introduce myself.
Islands have always been a central part of my life.
And I’ve always been deeply drawn to them.
Calling myself an “islander” feels like the perfect identity.
I love writing.
I really enjoy writing—not just to tell stories, but to sort through my thoughts and feelings.
It’s like having a quiet conversation with myself.
In a world filled with short texts and scattered messages, I find comfort in slowing down and expressing things in a clear, thoughtful way. And maybe,
that’s something worth holding onto.
I started this little website as a way to document life on the boat.
You’ll find stories about sailing, island life, ocean knowledge,
and even everyday stuff—like our favorite local spots or hidden gems we stumble upon.
I’m writing mainly in Chinese, because
I realized there aren’t that many ocean and sailing resources out there in our language.
I hope to create a space for other Chinese speakers
who are curious about the sea to explore, connect, and share.
There will be an English version too—
slowly translated with help from AI and a bit of human proofreading.
If you notice anything off, please feel free to point it out—
I’d really appreciate it!
You know, about 70% of our planet is covered by water.
The ocean is closer to our lives than most of us realize.
Especially if you’re from Taiwan like me—
we grow up surrounded by the sea, and yet many of us don’t really know it.
So,
if you have any questions or curiosities about sailing, the ocean,
or what life in Australia is like—
I’d love to hear from you.
or even better,
go find the answers together. :)
